I read your article today about my Dad what a wonderful way to remember him by. My son was so excited to now be able to really tell everyone where his name came from being so young he would never tell anyone his name was Delphos.

Thank you so much for remembering our Father,

Floy Fulton Spera (Delphos Fulton's Daughter)

This is a true story of my dad, George Delphos Fulton. My dad became a master auto mechanic, and was an early builder of auto engines that ran in the Daytona races. At our family reunion I asked my dad's sister about this letter. She was surprised about it , and never new that my dad had written this letter. In this story I have seen a side of my dad I never knew. I never knew the young boy looking for a place in society and a future for his family. Maybe this will inspire others to look for that young mom or dad in their parents that they never had the opportunity see. Thank you for taking the time to put all this together…it has been a blessing to our family!

I have read your blog on growing up in Delphos and found it delightful. I didn't grow up here, but I recognized some of the names you mentioned. Your dad must have been very mechanically inclined to be able to get a player piano working again.

. My father was the manager of Schiff Shoe Store on Main Street in Delphos. He got to know many of the folks in town. He spent allot of spare time in an antique store a couple of blocks down from his bussiness. One day we had a player piano delivered to the house. I remember dad said it came from New York. Although the outside was in pretty good shape the inner workings were not. Dad played with that thing every chance he got. He repaired all the tubing, a squeeze box, and everything else. He rebuilt it fabricating or repairing the parts by himself. He had it working in no time flat and we use to sit around it while he cranked the songs with a couple of foot pedals underneath. My favorite part was to throw the roller in reverse and crank it as fast as I could to re-roll the paper music rolls. The faster the better. It sure beat watching TV.

That's quite a tribute to Delphos. Do you live near here and/or do you visit the area? If so, please stop in at our museum sometime. We are open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 3 and Thursday mornings from 9 to noon.

Although I was born in Lima Ohio at the Lima Memorial Hospital I spent all of my early years growing up in Delphos Ohio. Hence The Marbletown Memoirs is the name of this blogGrowing up in Delphos was the greatest influence in my life. Little did I know that Delphos would become such a pull on me later on in life.I no longer believe in coincidences.
